The Future of the Car in the City

New York’s streets are contested space, with pedestrians, bicyclists, cars, buses, and trucks all jockeying for room.

Although New Yorkers have one of the lowest rates of vehicle ownership, the negative impacts of cars—pollution, declining street safety, and congestion—are becoming increasingly clear and demand thoughtful solutions.

What strategies will keep things moving: car-free “eco-zones,” congestion pricing, peak metering, or others— in light of increased pressures on the streetscape?

Join panelists Vishaan Chakrabarti, Marc Holliday Professor of Real Estate and Director of the Real Estate Development program in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation at Columbia University , Shin-pei Tsay, Deputy Director of Transportation Alternatives, and others for a discussion on the future of the car in New York .

Happy Centennial birthday Hunt Special... the only full size automobile that has been built in San Diego

Did the Hunt brothers, who only made this one vehicle, feel the need to plaster their name all over it for posterity to remember them? Or so they would gain local recognition and drum up business?

It's part of the J Cooley collection on permanent display at the Cooley Museum in San Diego at the corner of Park and El Cajon blvd.

Gambrinus Drivers Museum

This museum is located Belgium, at Romedenne in an authentic 19th century brewery-malting and presents a series of old trucks, especially equipped for the transport of beer. Different halls, including 70 thematic display cabinets, which are dedicated to the brands, to the makes of trucks (electricity/steam/petrol), to publicity, to truck manufacturers, etc.

Looks almost like a Tempo, but it's a Scammel truck, and this has to be the smallest semi truck / flatbed combo I'll ever see, and even better, it's a beer truck

Ryan x-13, possibly the only vertical launch, and vertical landing aircraft. How they landed that ono it's hook to tower.. I'm sure ground control must have helped instructions

If you want to see a really cool museum, of aircraft, spacecraft, and a lot of cool WW1 planes, next time you are traveling in San Diego, go to the San Diego Air and Space Museum in Balboa Park

Museum of transportation, a must see, if you are ever in Turkey

here's a link to the museum, to see a brief description of the exhibits, which include the USS Thornback SS 418 (I'm a submariner, I dig the old subs that are now museums!) railcars, and among a plethora of other things, a double-decker London bus, a restored tram car, and a DC-3 ‘Dakota’ airplane - which is suspended 50’ feet off the ground. It also showcases vintage automobiles, motorcycles, carriages, and wooden speedboats.
